Hi, I'm Nikki

I help educators, creators, and small business owners build websites that feel like them: warm, organized, and quietly powerful. The kind of website that makes you say, “Oh wow… I actually look legit.”

So who am I?

So I guess I should officially introduce myself.

I’ve loved computers since 1993, back when the internet screamed at you before it connected and AIM away messages were basically a personality test. You heard the dial‑up noise in your head. Don’t lie.

But before I loved computers, I loved teaching. I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was three. I miss having my own classroom full time, the energy, the kids, the chaos, the magic. Teaching is in my bones.

I graduated with degrees in Secondary Ed Comprehensive Social Studies and Citizenship, a History degree, and an Ethnic Studies minor. About fifteen years into my teaching career, I was selected for Cohort 3 of the Notre Dame Trustey Family STEM Teaching Fellows, which shaped a lot of how I approach instructional design and technology today.

I took judo and first aid as my gym credits because why not, and I once wrote a 65 page paper with a 5 page historiography on Michelangelo and earned a 4.0 on it. Most of my college work still lives on AOL floppies, one zip disk, and a single CDRW. If that doesn’t date me, nothing will.

I built my first website in college in Educational Technology class, writing straight HTML and saving files on those same zip drives. Since then, I’ve built sites in:

  • Dreamweaver
  • FrontPage
  • Joomla
  • Wix
  • Weebly
  • Google Sites
  • WordPress
  • …and plenty of hand‑coded HTML/CSS with forums and sprinkled with JavaScript

If that list made perfect sense to you, hi fellow tech nerd. If it sounded like “techie techie techie” (my husband’s words, not mine), even better. You are exactly who I love helping.

I don’t just build websites. I teach, present, and support educators and tech teams across the country.

You’ll find me on stages, in classrooms, and at conferences helping people understand technology in a way that feels human, accessible, and actually fun.

I believe tech should empower you, not overwhelm you. I’m really good at translating “computer” into “teacher‑brain friendly.” There is no piece of technology that can make someone a good teacher, but it can absolutely enhance a good teacher’s lessons because everything starts with a solid foundation.

I love computers. I love design. I love building websites. But what I love most is making the process simple, fun, and collaborative.

You do not need a logo, brand colors, a tech background, or any of the “things” figured out. You only need someone who can take your ideas and turn them into a website that feels like you.

I will guide you through every step with no overwhelm, no jargon, and no crying into a stack of ungraded essays. At least not because of your website. I’m a web designer, not a fairy godmother.

Mrs B and Mr B

I’m pretty mellow most of the time… until I get the zoomies. Then it’s over. I have a sharp wit, a love for situational comedy, and a talent for sarcasm that could probably be classified as a superpower.

I swear too much. I love Jesus. I apologize when I have to walk on a grave. I’m awkward and weird (shoutout to the NeuroSpicy crew), and I love my family fiercely.

I drink exactly one cup of coffee a day , before noon because any more and I won’t sleep for a week. I love fantasy books, true crime, mysteries, Agatha Christie, PBS theater, the BBC, documentaries, ballet, and ice skating. The Winter Olympics? My Super Bowl.

I love hockey, football, Notre Dame, the Steelers, the Rangers, and my husband (not necessarily in that order). I played soccer and softball growing up and still have a cannon of an arm — which surprises people until they see it in action.

I love flowers, my garden, penguins, tigers, and anything cozy. I used to run an online golf guild in an MMORPG because of course I did. I love video games (especially JRPGs and MMOs), and I still get emotional over a good soundtrack.

I make lesson plans and soap on the side because my hobbies also have hobbies. I love to sing, paint, dance, and sit on my porch glider with a cup of tea and a good book. I collect books, stuffies, and memories like they’re treasure.

I’m a wife and Mama to three… well, two at home now; our oldest is grown and out in the world. My oldest sings, my middle kiddo plays drums and baritone, and my youngest plays violin. We also have two dogs and six cats, most of them rescues, all of them weird in the best way.

We LOVE nature. We tent camp each year with no electricity, no cell service, just the cathedral of the mountains and the quiet we crave. We play board games, card games, and read as a family. We love music, rollercoasters, swimming, and museums.

I’m an eclectic mix of nerd, scholar, geek, and homesteader. I make soap, lotions, lip balms, and I can the vegetables we grow in our backyard. Our yard doesn’t look big enough for the amount of food we grow, which is how Unexpected Homestead was born.

It sounds cliché, but I’ve always had an insatiable curiosity about nearly everything, and that curiosity is what fuels my work.
